Hey everyone,

Setup: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/ominous11/saved/#view=6JPBD3

I taking the leap and getting into water cooling. This will be my first go at it so I'm kind of doing a custom aio water loop.

Since it boxing week going on I'm going to be grabbing Swiftech H240-X, Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper 360mm, ek waterblock for gpu with White Primoflex advanced lrt tubing.

I was curious on the type of fitting I should be working with. I love the monsoon fitting but I hear great things about bitspower. Also any info you think a new guy could use would be helpful !

Happy Holidays,

A T-line can be useful but isn't mandatory if you don't wish to use one. Just make sure its at the lowest part of the loop so it drains away from all your hardware. You shouldn't need any sort of emergency drain, but it does make it 'simpler' if you don't want to cut/remove tubing to drain the loop.

Compression fittings are just barbs with a screw-down ring. They really are almost like normal barbs other than barbs need a clamp and the compression fitting screw ring is the 'clamp'. There isn't anything overly different, other than looks and clamping mechanism.

I have always preferred the barb/clamp combo, but know some don't like the fit and finish of it.

For a show system I've used compression, but for a daily driver/worker, I use what I feel like is the most secure and leak-proof.

For semi-customs, you should look at something like these:

Unless you're specifically going for two loops, it may be a good way to find a base system to work from as you start out.

It will be partly for show as the Luxe case has a window on the side so I would love to show it off ( I'm doing black/white them) even my walls are that colour :)

So the compression fitting aren't as good as the barb/clamps ??

Also the swift tech is a semi custom loop but I've read it more then capable of running a second loop for the gpu if a second rad is there.

I wouldn't say they aren't as good, I just feel they are less fool-proof.

I also discovered over time that with flexible hosing (if you're using this), as the hoses get older and less flexible....with some compression fittings a bump in the wrong place, say if you're working in your case, is all it takes to start a seep. It is personal preference though.

One tip that I will give you when doing anything with custom or modded water cooled systems is: Don't forget a drain plan. A quick release valve somewhere in your system is an absolute necessity (in my opinion):

so if you need to drain for any reason......you can do it quickly and as cleanly as possible. Something as simple as a T-connector in a lower line with a ball valve fitting (and this can be capped until you need to connect a hose for actual draining) is a good and inexpensive way to go.
