Current system specs:

Asus M5A78L - MLX Plus Mobo
4GB Ram (I can bump this if needed)
AMD Phenom Pent II (Trying to Upgrade to AMD FX6300)
Running Windows 32bit Pro (I'm thinking about doing a wipe to change it to the 64 bit version)
Installed a Nvidia GTX950 and it recognized this right away
Updated bios to the 1701 version without a hitch
Upgraded the PSU to 500 W coolermaster

I'm trying to get the board to recognize the new CPU but I get no post with it in. If I swap to the Pentium it posts no issues but runs clunky even with the new GPU.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Make sure your bios is compatible with the FX upgrade. You will probably have to update to the latest bios for your motherboard for it to recognize the newer FX processor. Also ensure your processor is seated to the motherboard properly and that your CPU cooler is properly mounted.

I will try the bios cmos clear again I had done it once already but that was before upgrading the bios. I am running the current bios based on the manufacturer suggestions.

When I upgraded my processor to FX 8370 I had to update my bios to make it work properly. I am on a Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 which is compatible, but the bios wasn't up to date for the FX 8370. After updating bios everything worked great.

Yes. I updated the bios already and it didn't post everything I've done by the book and nothing finding time now to try the cmos as a last ditch effort the only thing, potentially, is that the cpu is just bad as everything else is working just dandy.

Defective parts, although very rare, are always a possibility. After exhausting all other possibilities (bios update and motherboard reset) the only thing left is a defective part.

Well I tried the cmos refresh and it still won't post. After all is said and done booting rebooting swapping cpu's doing every test I can on feedback on forums I have to believe the cpu is bunk. I'll return it to the

Totally sucks, definitely return the CPU. I know its a hassle and a big waste of time when you get a defective part. Good luck with your replacement part, let us know how things turn out with your replacement.
