My price range is around 300-400 dollars.

Currently running a system with

Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit
i7 4770k @ 3.5Ghz
12 GB Ram
MSI Z87-G45
500 GB SSD (Also buying a second hard drive with this purchase)
Currently have 2 Displays, might be interested in expanding to a 3rd for a TV in the future

I do play a lot of games with as maxed out settings as I can get while still maintaining 60 FPS usually.

I'm currently stuck between the GeForce 970 and the Radeon R9 390 series of cards. Can anyone tell me which might be the better card for my system and what I'm looking to do with it?

I own the gigabyte R9 390 and it's a beast!!! You will be able to run almost all recent games at max settings 60fps/1080p. Heavy hitters like GTA V and Witcher 3 (hairworks off) run from the mid 40s to high 50 fps at max.

The Gigabyte version has a reputation for being the loudest 390 version so I would recommend going with any of the other versions like MSI or XFX etc... as it's possible to watercool these versions if you want to in the future. If you got the little extra cash then you should probably get the sapphire version.

Ooh alright, see I didn't know that about the 390. So I might go ahead and pick one of those up. It's weird to me because all I've ever used in the past has been GeForce cards. Never once had a Radeon in my system.
