Hey guys, i recently upgraded my build for the holidays, and have been gaming nonstop throughout the past few days :D. Ive been running everything at 60fps @ 1080. The only issue is that after some time my framerate likes to dip down to 20-30 for a few seconds before recovering. here are my specs:

ASUS M5A78l-M LX PLUS
AMD FX 8350 @4.0 ghz
Hyper 212 Evo Heatsink
MSI R9 390 8gb
8GB corsair DDR3 (don't know exact model)
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS 80+ GOLD
NZXT S340
Windows 10 running on a 120 HyperX ssd
2 1tb hdd (i has my games on it)

Temps idle around 30-40c for everything, 40-50c for the 390. When gaming cpu is around 50-60, and gpu can get as hot as 75c.

After some research ive been told that the motherboard is the issue, and am fairly certain its something motherboard / cpu related, possibly VRM overheating, although it could be something else causing it aswell.

So i guess my question is, are there any simple fixes to this issue? A new motherboard is an option but not possible for a good while :/

Solution
Odd that the VRMs would be overheating if you haven't OC'ed the CPU. And you said the temps for "everything" was 30-40C. ???
But if you feel the VRMs are overheating, check their size. They are situated side by side in pairs on that board. Those heat sinks are 10mm x 10mm. Be sure that will fit. Hopefully you can find some thermal pads or some removable thermal adhesive that will fit.

@ 4GHz, it should not be throttling. Are you sure the drop in clcok speed isn't just when the CPU is at low demand?
How clean is your system? You might try running CCLeaner to clean up junk files, registry errors, software conflicts and other resource-wasting crap. Do the Clean and Registry portions both. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

Disable as much as possible that is running when Win boots. Check your tray for stuff you can disable and run on an as-need basis.

Your specs look good. No problems there. The temps are good, also. I suspect it is software related. Unless you happen to have a defective component, which is unlikely.

Thanks for the reply, cluthc!

After some research I can confirm that it is indeed an issue regarding overheating on the motherboard. To test i took off my case's side panel and set up a small room fan pointing directly inside the case, towards the mosfets. After playing GTA V for 20 minutes, my frames only dropped as low as low50s / high 40s fairly infrequently, where as without the fan it was dropping to low 30s/high 20s quite often. So i guess now i need to find a way to keep my mosfets cool, as the room fan really isn't an idle permanent solution for me :D

As far as software goes, i am running on a copy of windows 10 that was fresh installed to my SSD less then a month ago, and also recently refragmented my HDDs after the install, so i think im fine there.

Now, do you think some mosfet heatsinks would do a good job of reducing throttling, such as these? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835708012 or would i need a fan to get desired results?
