I think I've permanently ruined a USB thumb drive ('H' in this example) following a power outage. I managed to get some files copied over to a hard drive -- and thankfully there was not much on the drive to begin with -- but there's some nasty HEX stuff on both folders and files and it just kills me! In addition to attempts to rename the files/folders I've tried
--------------------
command
E:\>FORMAT H: /fs:FAT32
--------------------
Different DRIVE LETTER
--------------------
Attempted Open with Ultra-Edit (a powerful HEX editor) to hack the HEX mumbo jumbo and replace it with ALPHA & NUMERIC
--------------------
Attempted MOVE-ON-BOOT (can't read anything on the drive)
--------------------
Full Format, Quick Format
--------------------
Break it to me. It's cooked, right?
