I moved all the files from my desktop hard drive to this external drive so that I could reinstall Windows 7; now, I want to restore the data to the HDD, but the external hard drive isn't showing up in My Computer or Disk Management when I plug it in. I've tried every USB port I have, and it works fine when I use it with my laptop. The box says it doesn't require any software to use.

Hi there ducktapespace,

So the drive works fine on your laptop right? Also, some other drives work on your desktop except that one?
If this is the case, I would say that this is really strange.

You can attach the drive to the ports on the back of the computer case. They tend to provide more power. You can even use one of those Y type of USB cables.
Is the drive recognized by BIOS?
I guess it will not hurt to go to your MOBO's website and update all the drivers(especially the USB ones).

Cheers,

It was the drivers! Total brain fart; I updated my new mobo with the old one's disc. Just fixed it, it's working now. Thank you!
