Hi guys. I'm looking to upgrade my current build with about $600usd and wanted to get a second opinion/suggestions on parts.

Current Build:
-Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
-ASRock H77M Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
-Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
-Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB Video Card
-Sandisk Solid State Drive 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (boot drive)
-Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (used for games/everything else)
-XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
-Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case
-2 x 23" 1920x1080 60hrz Monitors

The GPU is the main piece i would like to upgrade and I'm currently looking between a gtx970 and an r9 390 (seem to be a good option for 1080p gaming). From everything I've read, it doesn't seem like my current cpu will be a bottleneck for these cards but I'm not sure if I need to upgrade the PSU (especially for an r9 390 as these seem to be more power hungry)? Is the higher VRAM in the 390 going to make that the better card or is the 970 still a good choice?

I know these cards are in the mid $300 range so the plan for the rest of my budget would be to add some more SSD space for games i play more often but I would love some feedback to see if there is anything else to upgrade first.

Thanks!

If I were you i would go with the R9 390 it out performs many nvidia cards but consumes much more power so you might want to upgrade your psu to possibly a 600-700w
