Asus RT ac66u has been around for several years with great success, but with the recent update on the Netgear ac1750 router the R6400, is it still worth it to buy the Asus? I personally like Asus as a brand, but if Netgear have a performance advantage over the Asus, I would reconsider my choices. Thanks!

I see your need and am getting mbps envy. It is a matter of which works best for you. You could always buy both and do a home shoot out before the return period ends. Set up a several devices for internet streaming then do an internet speed check. Step it up until something chokes to see if there is any difference.

Look on small net builder for their reviews of the routers. They put the NETGEAR R6400 first.

What do you want to stream? Either should be faster than your internet connection and no AP can stream to a device faster than the the device can receive. But if you have gigabit Internet go for it. If you want to stream local MKV encoded Blu ray quality movies or operate a wireless NAS, that is another matter. Future proofing is a consideration, but so is spending much less on a good enough device and replacing it with another good enough device later.

I have 200/20 internet plan, and I would like to take full advantage of that, and since a large majority of my gadgets at home are wireless, with only one PC connected through ethernet, so I am seeking for a device that can improve my wifi speed by a considerable amount (my current router is a N300). AC1750 routers are affordable so I am looking in this field.
