The 850 Evo is a fan favorite, so you can't go wrong there. Boxing deals are out there though:

Other choices can offer just as good a user experience , so you may look at deals and compare the specs against the Samsung drive....and check some reviews. The Sandisk Ultra II or Intel 535 and Crucial BX200 are also good performers.

For the most part it doesn't matter, but if he has a 2.5mm HDD in a LAPTOP that's the typical 9.5mm he'll need the thin divider (or just use a piece of cardboard like I did) to snug the drive in cozy.
