Can RAM bottleneck my new GPU?

To start, I just upgraded to a MSI r9 380 4gb GPU. FX-6300 CPU. I've used mixed ram until recently noticed fps issues. I then took out the worse stick and boom, fps went up a slight bit on games. So I've thought that my card is always performed worse than people say. even with the same processor. So, if I get 8GB of ram, will my fps on games like fallout and gta be boosted? Thanks.

tldr, I see same specs people get higher fps, is ram a deciding factor in it?

My specs are
CPU-FX-6300
GPU-MSI R9 380 Gaming 4GB
RAM - 4GB Hyperx Fury 1866
HDD - Some slow thing.
MOBO- ASUS M5A67 R2.0
Any tips on higher fps would be appreciated.

You should check your CPU temps with HWMonitor to make sure there is no throttling, but I seriously doubt there is in this scenario.

I know your original post was about the RAM, and it's now been clearly established that you should have at least a matched pair of 8 GB of total (2 x 4 GB). But I'm now stating the opinion that your CPU is also a bottle neck. If I were in your situation I would upgrade to an i7 processor. I would either buy a four core i7-6700k (w/ Z170 MB) or a six core i7-5820 (w/ x99 MB). I would sell the items below to help recoup some of the cost of upgrading.

RAM - 4GB Hyperx Fury 1866

Also know that if you live within the US and within driving distance of a Micro Center...
Two things: Bethesda listed 8 GB as both the minimum and recommended amount of memory for Fallout 4. But also, it's an extremely CPU dependent game. I honestly think you should check your CPU core usage while in the middle of game play. I'm guessing that it's near maximum usage, but I'd really be curious to get your input. Please post what you see. Also, check out the Fallout 4 performance review below. It's a real eye opener.

4GB of RAM is marginal for modern games, especially high-spec ones. Take a look at the disk activity LED, if you see significant storage activity during laggy sequences, your PC is running out of RAM and using the swapfile. This instantaneously ruins performance no matter how fast the rest of your PC might be.

HDD activity at 100% with RAM steady at ~3.2GB in-use looks like HDD activity is killing your performance. HDD activity should not be continuously this high.
