Challenge: list a better build for less money.
Comments: Any opinions on my build would be greatly appreciated. What would you change, what would you add, etc.

Thanks!

Notes: This is a non-OC build! w/o case. Suggestions on a case I'd also appreciate. I'm thinking of adding a 1tb hdd, but not sure how useful it would really be. Also, think 600w is enough? As for gaming I basically only play SWTOR, Diablo3, Starcraft, Skyrim, Fallout 4 and shooters such as CS, BL & COD

  • Windows 10 home $120
    Intel core i5-6500 lga 1151 $200
    EVGA Geforce GTX 960 2g $210
    MSI H170A $115
    G.Skill Ripjaws 8g ram (2x4g) $90
    Samsung 850 EVO 250g SSD $80
    EVGA 600w $40

Solution
Just a suggestion. You still get win10, a locked i5, drop the 960 for a 970, slightly larger psu for right about the same price for the same components (no case etc).

1) Not necessary, any core i5 would do your job pretty well. An i5 6400, costs $20 less and will be just fine.
2) You can get a better alternative over gtx 960 2g; https://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-r9380p4255 also costs $7 less.
3) Are you going for looks?, because $115 motherboard includes some improved feature and some fancy light. Not really necessary, there are many decent boards priced under $100 but more or less you will get the same feature as a $115 boards got. I got some options for you:
- https://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-h170pro4 / https://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-h170mpro4 (Form factor)
- https://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-h170gamingm3

4) The most important part in your system; your power supply unit. I guess, that is 600B from EVGA, better you alter it with my suggested one
:https://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b20750vr, it will server you well.
So, overall you saved a lot.

Just a slight change over your current parts list:

As your above listed build costs around $855

Hope this meets your solution.

You'll probably want a 1tb hdd for games but you're welcome to try a 250gb ssd and see. Just remember to factor in free space on the drive, ssd's can't be filled full to the brim just like hdd's. They need some free space to operate more optimally and like hdd's you don't get the full advertised space. I've got a 240gb ssd in another pc and only 223gb is usable. Factor in some 'breathing room' and a 240gb ssd gives roughly 200gb or so of usable space.
