Hi all! I just built an awesome new pc yesterday and I have everything up and running. The problem is that whenever i launch a game the entire PC crashes and restarts. It doesn't give me a black screen or anything just shuts off. I was thinking that it could have been my GPU (GTX 970) so i removed and tried some older drivers and the newest one but everything still crashed when I tried. Tried running furmark in windowed but it would still immediately crash. I have tested my CPU with Prime95 and am using HWMoniter and the temps barley go above 40 degrees celsius for all 4 cores while testing. I truly appreciate any help you guys would give me! I do have a power supply that is atleast 5-6 years old and could be the culprit for the PC restarting everytime I launch a game.

PC Specs
CPU: i5-6600 @ 3.9 GHz
RAM: Patriot ViperXtreme 8GHz DDR4 2400 MHz
MOBO: MSI Z170A PC Mate
GPU: Geforce GTX 970
Storage: OCZ 240 GB SSD
PSU: cooler master RS-550-PCAR-E3

Thanks all! :D

Unfortunately I don't have another power supply to test :( and yes everything is fully up to date.

Older psu's can lose their ability to put out the power they did when new. Considering the age of the psu it might very well be time for a new one. Even though it's rated at 550w, if it's unable to put out that much power on aging capacitors you might be hitting a low power situation once the graphics card comes under load causing your shutdowns.

Thank you both! I ordered the Corsair CX600M i think that it'll work great :D I will let both of you know if it works. Battlefront and Metro 2033 did not work but L4D2 did work with the cooler master PSU.
