I've had this PSU for 2 years and when I first built it, the PC was very power efficient so at load it would only take 180 watts of power. I've gradually upgraded it and has taken a slight increase of stress on the PSU. I saw the gtx 770 on a very good price. I've always wanted to get the gtx 960 ever since it came out but the prices are so damn high here in the UK and afyer extensive research, the gtx 770 still beats in performance and will last me another 3-4 years of gaming until I have to upgrade the GPu again. Also if I get the gtx 770, I'll upgrade my PSU to a higher wattage/efficency like the corsair cx 750 watt or an Evga PSU etc.

FULL PC SPECS

Intel Core i7 2600 (non-k) @3.4gHz

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo ( With a another fan on the other side of heatsink)

Artic Silver 5 Thermal Paste

Corsair Vengeance RAM 1600mhz 8GB 2x4GB

Asus P8H61-MX USB3 Motherboard 1155

Asus HD Radeon 7790 Direct CU II 1GB (I've overlcoked this from 1075mhz to 1175mhz)

1TB 7200rpm 64MB Cache

Widnows 7 64-bit Home Premium

Corsair CX500 watt PSU ( Non Modular )

I've obviously looked EVERYWHERE to see people's opinion on this and some people said it's ok as long as you don't overlcoked anything, which I won't at all until I get a new PSU. According to the Extreme Power Supply Calculator http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator, my PC with a gtx 770 will have a max load of 386 watts. I put my cpu utilization at 55% because I tested a lot of my games to see my CPU usage and BF4 Multipalyer, which I play fairly frequenty, only uses an average of 50%-60% usage of my CPU because the i7 2600 is very powerful. What I was thinking when buying a gtx 770 is to possilby UNDERCLOCK the gpu clock and memeory clock to use less watts. the gtx 770 is already very fast even if you underclock and with my i7 2600, there will be no bottleneck meaning it will enable the gtx 770's full power.

After the using power supply calculator, it says I would use just under 400 watts of power WITH the gtx 770 ( around 380 watts ).

SO what is your guy's opinion? I'm kinda desperate. so in conclusion, can the corsair 500 watt psu take a gtx 770? even if I don't do ANY overclocking, I underclock the GPU, disconnect usb devices when not needed. Please answer with non-biased statements, I don't want any amd - intel fanboys, I want legit answers from expercienced pc builders. Thanks for helping :)

But companies always put the reccomend wattage higher than what is actually needs to increase the relaibibty to get more money. So can I not just go against their rules for a month or 2?

Of course you can, its your rig and no one is going to turn up at your house and kick your door in and drag you off into the night just because you ignored the recommendation of the GPU's manufacturer.

The gtx 770 you're looking at is used? Looking via the pcpartpicker should the gtx 960 be a lot less money.

What about this? A 750 watt of good quality isn't necessary anyway.A good quality 550watt should do fine.
With that in mind would you think that your current psu should be able to handle it,and it should, you could try it,but the quality of the Corsair CX series is highly doubted here, maybe the reason why the moderator suggests the minimum adviced by Nvidia.
