I have an nvidia 4000 on a system that will no longer start up to windows (7). The Logo comes up, pulses for a bit then pixelates then the screen goes black. The system starts fine in safe mode. I can boot to the windows disk but that is low res and doesn't use drivers.
The reason I suspect the gfx card is that during boot, I get blue blocks scattered throughout black background. I've never noticed that before. The block pattern is the same every boot. So it's not random.
Before this happened I made no system changes and installed no new hardware. It's been configured for years in the same state. I even installed a new OS drive that was a backup from over a year ago with the same result. So probably not a virus or new software install.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver in safe mode. I have to use a particular driver because of the hardware/software on the system. I've used a different monitor. I've reseated the card.
This is on a HP z800.
Any ideas?
