Recently, I spoke to a technician for a Cat 6 ethernet installation in my home. I wanted them to run an ethernet cable from the modem through the crawl space under the house to my room. I told him that the distance from the modem to my room is roughly thirty feet; that's when he began to calculate the price. He noted how this installation can take up to four hours, and I was fine with that - until he mentioned the total price of $410. To me, this is very expensive; is this a normal price for a standard home ethernet installation?

Thank you!

This tell me he isn't experienced at all. Move on.

Who do you think I should contact to get the job done?
I suppose depends where you are. Rather than giving your job to the "I wanna get paid for every little dirt that get onto my shirt" type, I would look for folks with extra time, hungry folks, who don't care about getting dirty. See if there are TaskRabbit.com folks in your area. If you are lucky, he's a retired phone man who's done a little construction, who can use some extra bucks in his spared time. You want to ask "someone who's done 568a/b CAT cable wiring and finishing." This job is not hard, it just sound dirty in...

He kept rambling on how he could face a ton of problems while in the crawl space, et cetera.

This job is not hard, it just sound dirty in that crawl space, and it's even possible without crawling if you are willing to punch 2 holes on the walls and patch it later.

No way to DIY eh?

Thanks for the response. I would do it myself, but I have no idea how (I'm sure it's not that difficult, though). I'm not that old either - only fourteen years old. Plus, I doubt my mother would let me go in that crawl space, lol. Don't live with my father either, so he can't help me.
