Running games from secondary HDD

Hi there, I just installed a 250Gb Samsung Evo 850. I did a fresh OS install, as I'm keeping the HDD onboard as a secondary, and the few games I have on there, I can just do a fresh download/install from Steam.

There is one exception though. I'm running a heavily modded Fallout: New Vegas, and if I can avoid re-downloading the game and all the mods, I'd like to.

When I boot Windows from the SSD, The .exe for Fallout on the HDD doesn't work. I figured that if I rebooted and entered setup, I could get it to boot from the HDD. But it just booted from the SSD anyway.

So far, the only way I have been able to get Fallout to run is to disconnect the SSD, switch back into IDE mode, and reboot. Is there an easier way? Or would I be better off just biting the bullet and doing a fresh install of Fallout on the SSD, along with downloading and installing all the mods?

With the new Steam client, you can designate multiple locations.
Drives and/or folders.

Unless you repopulated the local files (original disk) with copies (to new disk) that steam or any other service like for example Ubisoft used, then yeah you're going to need to redo it. I don't use steam, but there may be an option to "re-discover" files rather than having to actually re-download the whole game/s and mods (provided they are in an accessible way buy the service). I know with most services the core game files (and others) usually don't need to be reinstalled as long as the save paths for game launchers, cache and the like are reconfigured so the service (steam) can find them.

Again I don't use steam so i'm not sure how it handles situations like that.

On the HDD:
Create a new folder somewhere
Call it MyGames
Find the SteamApps folder on your HDD
Copy that to the new folder you created

In your new Steam client on the SSD, do this:
In the steam client:
Steam
Settings
Downloads
Steam Library Folders
Add library folder
