Can motherboard damage affect other components

Hello everyone. Today I was using my computer and all of a sudden it shut off. I didnt think much of it at first thought maybe the power went out or something but when i looked inside I noticed that one of my LED light strips in my case had peeled off and the copper part at the end touched my motherboard. This turned off the entire system. After a look around and conversations with some people I came to a conclusion that my motherboard had been fried. What my worry is, is that the other components had gotten damaged as well like the cpu gpu and ram. The problem with booting was that all the fans and LED's would come on but there would be no display on my monitors or USB power because my keyboard nor mouse lit up. I have the entire system dissembled now and am planning to purchase a new motherboard. Is it possible for my parts if damaged to damage my new motherboard or other components. Also what can I do to make sure of this not happening or to potentially fix the problem.

Thanks
~Pana

You won't really know until you can test the parts in another system or get a new mobo and fire it up. Damage to the other components is a possibility. One thing I noted was that your PSU isn't the best quality and may be the cause of the failure (overvolting). I would think about using another PSU when you reassemble the computer to prevent a repeat.

Wait so your saying that the power supply could have been affected by the charged copper wire touching the motherboard? Like I said it was giving power to all the fans and all the LEDs were turning on when I tried to boot it the only thing is when I closed the pc I needed to flip the power switch on the psu because the pier button wasn't working holding it down or pressing it once.

Okay thank you,

What do you think about the gpu and cpu would those be damaged because I will be moving the parts to a new mobo and I want to be on the safe side.

The copper part on the light strip made contact with the mono in the USB 3.0 boost section and since my keyboard and mouse were in USB 3.0 ports that's why they stopped working what I'm worried about is why I wasn't getting a display because that could be the RAM, CPU or GPU.
