Need specs and part # for Asus notebook MB

Asus will not provide me with the specs or part number for the MB for my N56JN G-series notebook which appears to be dead. The laptop is just out of warranty so they are not responsible for any repairs.

Tech support is horrible and extremely UN-knowledgeable about their products and how to provide the barest minimum of tech support. What seems to be the new norm is to place you on hold and leave you there no matter how nice, calm and even give praise to their products. They know they can't provide support so you are shuttled into purgatory or left with the end call survey....

Their only singular option is to have me ship it to their CA repair facility (said only authorized place in the USA) where someone will determine the cost to repair/replace at some unknown time. Then proceeded to try and sell me back up media and a new laptop. Yeah I know I DID call tech support not sales....

I own the laptop, I feel I should be able to know what the specs are (no sheet available) and/or part #s so that I can comparatively shop for parts and/or repairs or decide if it is now just a boat anchor.

This was one of their top of the line gaming laptops just a year or so ago that supposedly won many awards. They can't even tell me if I can purchase a replacement part from them.

There is only 1 BIOS download so I am positive there is only 1 MB that was ever used in this model.

Any thoughts/help/suggestions would be great.

The mobo I linked was over 200 bucks, and I don't think I would bother fixing it if it was mine. I would part it out on Fleabay and buy something different. What the OEM's like ASUS and Dell want for parts is sometimes more than what the whole thing sold for.

Update - Words fail me when I talk about Asus tech support.

It is unskilled, untrained and completely lacking in tech knowledge on any level and are willing to lie, place you on indefinite hold, or just end the call. No record or any previous calls or case # - so they said; have no caller ID with which to tell what # I am calling from - so they said; there is no part # - so they said but only their RMA repair facility can access such a # - or so they said; not phone # to the RMA center or expressly forbidden to provide it - so they said; NOT an Asus motherboard but refused/not allowed to say who the manufacture was... only my "legal team" could contact their corporate offices or legal department (no contact information at all for their legal department - my legal "team" would just "know" how to contact them and the list goes on and on and on....

I finally started giving them the mere basics of questions to determine tech support training and/or invented things like "My CMOS is jumping all over and I don’t know what to do"; "my CMOS is making my indicator lights flash non-stop" " I flashed the optical drive BIOS and now it is opening and closing all the time by itself": "I crossed my CMOS and BIOS with jumpers and now my HD is eating my data and I can see it happen - what do I do?" - _-

At EVERY instance I was told "I can help you with that issue" I would say "are you sure" THEM: "Oh yes! I can assure you I can help you with that issue";

ME: “you are sure??” Them: “Absolutely!” ME: “do you know what CMOS is?” Them: “Absolutely”…. “it is integrated for the input and output of data” ME: “Really? it is? Where is it integrated?” Them: “I don’t know it just is” THEM: “it is the power source and makes the computer run” THEM: “you need it for the operating system have you tried to restore the OS? We have restoration media you can purchase at our E-store”. And it goes on and on…..

So they would “look around” for an answer and then I would be told “this issue sounds more severe than I can help you with over the phone and I will issue you and RMA to have this unit looked at/serviced”

They can’t tell me anything about any component that is NOT on the E-store which is basically none yet can quote me an estimate of $690 but can’t tell me what that is for and it may be higher (sure won’t be lower. Asked how they arrived at that figure said “put in” the model # and that is the estimate -- one figure only.

They were polite - even when putting me into Hold Hell. One gal when asked to place herself in my shoes would she settle for the answers she provided to me? and not have any options? repeatedly said she "declined to say" if these answers and choices were acceptable for herself - because OFC they were not! She was squirming in her chair you could almost see it!

The part that really gets me is that as the owner I am not “entitled” to know the components of the computer, there is no “spec sheet”; CANNOT buy direct at all and that I have only ONE choice to accept for repairs/parts and that is the RMA repair facility which is not even owned by Asus – according to the center – and oh yes! easily found their phone # in spite of Asus tech support. No replacement parts are available – yet there are tons of other available Asus laptop parts
OK the real UPDATE is I called 3 of 5 other repair facilities on their site – they do not list the RMA facility in CA and the other 2 are in Costa Rica and Puerto Rico.; #2 GA -- left VM no response so far; #3 UT -- no answer no VM available.
The RMA repair center real name: Bizcom-US (888) 678-3688 1171 Montague Expressway, Milpitas, CA 95035 says he needs the serial # and then the repair techs will give him a part # and cost of part only although I certainly had to tell him 100x I did not want the computer to be diagnosed or repaired there. This rep was nice although he said it was the first time he has ever had such a call.
Not even sure it is only Asus they deal with because I was given to the Asus “rep” which pretty much sounds like there are other companies’ “reps” too.
The best sort of answer I got was the #1 NY-- call I made to a repair site listed and he told me Ausu most definitely made the board on FOXCONN’s assembly line ( yep, you know the one) and that there maybe 2-4 different actual boards for the model, has no part #s as they are not available (!!!!) he will buy direct from Asus – DUH! and just a guess around $650 for the part and asked me to call him back. We know ofc the GPU and CPU but does not know the NB or SB manufacturer.

Never have I had a computer company shrouded in so much secrecy or no have replacement parts available and lack of choices.

Going to call both places back tomorrow as requested.

Any suggestions/help most appreciated.

Asus – omg! Get some training to your people!!!!
