Hello experts, this is my first time ever trying to build a computer by my own, I have done numerous research and read through lots of post on this forum. This is my final components for my gaming PC:

CPU: Intel Core i5 6600K
CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i GTX 104.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 ATX / Gigabyte GA-Z170N-Gaming 5 Mini ITX Motherboard
Graphic Cards: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 G1 Gaming 4GB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x4GB)
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G1 Gold 650W Power Supply
Hard Drives: Seagate Barracuda 1TB ST1000DM003
SSD: SanDisk Ultra II 240GB
Case: NZXT S340 (Black/Blue) ATX Mid Tower Case

I have checked Pcpartpicker and there is no incompatibility problem. However, I wonder if I did pick any components that is overkill for this system? Or would you see any issue with this build?

My main concern with the Mini ITX motherboard is it might be too small for my Mid Tower Case. If the Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 is good enough, I will stick with it. But still, any recommendation for other brands of motherboard? Just because I have a Gigabyte GTX980 so I think I should stick with Gigabyte motherboard.

I am also doubt that my PSU is abit too much, but will it harm to have excessive power supply?

Thank you for the upcoming advises. I am looking forward to build the first PC of my life.:)

Solution
Ok no part is overkill, all is fine.

Mini ITX boards also fit in mid towers.

But i would get a ATX board as it has more features such as, 2 GPUs for double the power.

So for you you could buy another 980, and have 2 running at the same time in SLI for double power :)

I thinnk you PSU us actually less, i Suggst you get a 750w,It will also come in handy for future upgrade(wont have to buy a more powerfull PSU for new parts :) )

here is the motherbaord i suggest:

and PSU

oh and make sure you have DDR4 2400 Ram.

Thanks alot for your input. Now I am feeling abit greedy and want to go for the MSI gtx 980 ti. Hehe. Is the mobo and PSU you enough for it?

Also I am looking for a 1440p monitor for the gtx 980ti. What is your recommendation? (I dont need 4k)

Thanks Ptown Gamer. After doing more research I have made my orders for the computers component

Graphic Cards MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6GB
CPU Intel Core i5 6500
CPU Cooler  Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard MSI H170A Gaming PRO Motherboard
RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX
Power Supply Seasonic Gold 750W Power Supply
Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 1TB ST1000DM003
SSD SanDisk Ultra II 240GB
Case Phanteks Enthoo Pro Chassis Black

With this final components and without the intention to OC, do you think the Liquid Cooler is overkill? There is debate on this site about whether Liquid cooler is just a waste of money that I can't decide who was right.

Doesnt matter a liquid cooler will look good in your system, and yes liquid coolers are better than air coolers.

Your going for the S340 case, so i say the h100i gtx will look really good, except the radiator goes into the front of the case :)
