My lap model is ASUS K53SM-SX010D running Windows 10 64-bit.
It's having two memory slots for RAM, but one went 'not-working' after i removed and replaced the existing RAM. So now, have only one working slot. Thinking of buying 8 GB DDR3 RAM, but can't really decide on the brand . Please suggest me the best brands with compatible models within 5K.
Also, if the new ram gets detected in old slot, then can I club 8 GB RAM in one and 4 GB RAM in another to have 12 GB total

. So installed the new memory as additional and my laptop runs smoothly with 12 GB of RAM and the whole is shown as usable
