When using my laptop on a wireless network, Speed is reported as 72.0 Mbps in Wireless Connection Status. When I run an online speed test, I am getting reports of 5 to 25 Mbps. Is there something between my network adapter and my browser that is causing this disparity?

Solution

The Wireless Connection Status displays the speed that your laptop's wireless adapter has negotiated with the router. This is the max speed that the laptop can connect with other devices on your own network.

The online speed test only shows the connection speed to the Internet, which is limited by your ISP according to your subscribed plan.
