Should I use an after market CPU cooler?

Hi all,

I am building my first PC and I am wondering if I should use an after market CPU cooler instead of the intel stock cooler.

My CPU is a intel i5 6500, so not overclocking will be done.


What do you all think, is it worth it?

What would be the benefits?

The risers wont add up because they already calculated that in
If the case supports coolers up to 155 mm, the s40 will fit no matter what

Yes , yes and yes
It does your cpu a huge favor
The stock coolers arent really meant for heavy load or gaming
It is absolutely worth it especially with that kind of cpu ( higher end cpu)
It would result in better temperatures and lower noise
Do yourself and your cpu the favor :)

Do after market CPU coolers usually come with pre applied thermal paste?

If not, is there anything wrong with buying the cheap $1 paste compared to the $10 paste?

Yes it comes pre-applied
But i´d recommend to just spend these few dollars more and dont worry about it anymore
If someone has a 600 $ pc, 5 $ thermal paste shouldnt be a problem
And you also dont have to buy the biggest tube with 20 g
Applying it is easy and once you´ve done it, its nothing special any more :)

GAMMAXX S40 as it is available locally and reasonably cheap too.

I need to check if it'll fit in my case though, a coolermaster silencio 352.

Edit: coolermaster states the case can support CPU cooler up to 155mm and S40 is 143mm.

How stringent are manufacturers with these numbers? The motherboard on it's risers will likely add another few mm.

Would I likely encounter any problems installing the S40 in my case?
