I want to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 3847's case but I read something about the motherboard being an OEM version, so it is incompatible with any regular case. Can someone with a similar computer tell me if I can put the motherboard in a regular mid tower ATX case?

Cheers

Yes, it is Micro ATX Form Factor. A slightly different mounting screw pattern may leave you with a hole in the motherboard with no standoff. The Dell front panel wiring is a proprietary design that is not used in retail bare ATX cases.

So would this mean that I can put it into a atx case but the motherboard will have a hole with no screw? I'm ok with that I suppose and what would happen with the front panel wiring in the new case? Would their be no slots compatible on the motherboard? What do you mean?

Thanks for your help!

Sorry for replying so lately, but how did you do the front panel connection?
Thanks!
