Hey Guys, I'm playing at 1440x900 since Full HD monitors give me a headache when playing for a long period of time and also my 900p monitor is 75hz. I have a HD 7950 3gb Crossfire and I'm asking if 3gb is enough for current and future games.

And also, is vram stacking going to be a thing or not?

Your amount of VRAM doesn't necessarily futureproof your rig. The chipset etc also play an important part in this.

Stacking is already a thing, look at AMD's HBM on their newer cards.

Thanks for the answer :)

do you think Vram stacking will be a thing for older GPUs like the HD 7950/r9 280 in crossfire mode in DirectX 12 games or do you think that 3gb is plenty for 1440x900?
Because most pepole still use 2gb cards today (GTX 770/960) and it perfectly works even at 1080p?

I'll use my last card as an example since this was why I upgraded instead of crossfired. My understanding is as follows:

If you have one card (HD 7970 OC) and you want to crossfire it instead of upgrade it your VRAM won't stack. You will only have as much VRAM as the lowest card as they take turns rendering (imagine one takes odd and one takes even) so each is using its own VRAM.

This is one of the better faqs about crossfire I have bookmarked: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/245454-33-crossfire-faqs

For the moment a semi recent 3GB card shouldn't have any problems with 1440x900 so long as its optimised. That said, I'm of the opinion that 2016 will be a game changer for GPUs and that cards that I'd have thought last year would last 3/4 years will become obsolete a lot quicker.

yeah normally in Crossfire, Vram doesn't stack but with DirectX 12 comes support for Vram stacking. That means that the Game doesn't use AFR but SFR.
But do you think a crossfire hd 7950 be worth it over something like the r9 290 with vram stacking?
Because I'm 16, i really struggle to get some money cause i still go to school and i go to school 40+ hours a week, so work is really a big no no. I could try and sell my 2 7950s but
1.) I will get like 80€ for 1 card (max 100€)
2.) an aftermarket R9 290 used costs like 250€
so what do you recommend?
Keep in mind that I will keep my 1440x900 monitor, since a bigger one gives me a headache, for some random cause

BTW could you rate my English skills? I really need feedback as english is very important in my school and my mother tounge is german
