Hey guys,

I'm having problems with grinding noises with my GPUs, My previous GPU was EVGA GTX 960 and now I have a EVGA GTX 970. For the past 9 months my GTX970 has been fine but now they're both currently making this noise. This only happens when I'm in any type of game. It's weird for example in MMO games when I just look directly to the sky and there's nothing there it stops making that sound. Regardless if its a taxing game or not. As soon as I tab out it stops and when i tab back in it starts making that noise. Not sure if it's because of the new monitor that I have but it started at the same time that I got the ASUS VG248QE.

This is what I have.

This is with the fan off and even after trying to have on from 0rpm to 100% the noise doesn't disappear

This is with the fan on without being loaded into anything

Also I'm clearly not educated and english isn't my first language so please bare with me with the grammar and the formatting. My brother is the one that fixes my computer for me and honestly I don't know much about computers so please bare with me if I have a lot of stupid questions.
I've had this problem for atleast a month now. I don't know if my problem is the PSU, motherboard or whatever. At this point I just want to blow my eardrums out, The volume of the noise in the video is exactly what I'm hearing.

Any sort of input is appreciated and thank you in advance!

Sounds like typical coil whine.

Try re-seating it and verify the power connections are tight.

Sometimes this goes away after a few days. If not, RMA the card. MANY manufacturers have occasional issues with Coil Whine and they will replace the card for you.

I'll try both these options after I come back from work. It's just that over the span of a month the noise that it makes just keeps getting louder and louder.

Also the coil whine is less noticeable when we tried switching it to my brothers CPU.

Yeah when we put it in my brother's CPU last night the noise is significantly less than what I get on my computer. I'll try removing it later when I get back from work but I'll have to google how to do it.

I'm trying to download the onboard graphics driver for my motherboard but its giving me an error saying i dont have the minimum requirements? Do I take off the GPU first?

If it does end up being the PSU what would you recommend for me to get? I only have a budget of $100

Very late response here sorry but I finally was able to take off my GPU and run a game. Although the game itself that I used to have noise on was running like shit It didn't make any noise at all. What would be the next step?

It seems like its making louder noise now after I put it back in

It ran like crap because intergrated graphics are for games like cs go at best. If it doesnt make a noise without gpu then it is the GPU. Or it might be the PSU when it is stressed more. Try to put a different gpu on your pc and play a game. Or try your gpu to another pc and if in the other pc it doesnt make a noise at all then it is probobly the psu

Well, Me and my brother switched GPU earlier as well and his GPU made noise on my CPU as well and my GPU had very faint noises when put on his CPU. The other thing tho is after I put it back in it started giving me FPS lags and some things on the game that I'm playing isn't being displayed properly and looks like minecraft blocks. Would the best bet be to try and purchage a PSU just to try it?

Your pc's are weird :D

Since there are so many noises... then it might be the PSU. A good solution would be to buy a cheap psu with the Wattage you need just to see if there is noise, and if there isnt then it was the PSU. (so then buy a good psu). Before you do that I would also clean the whole pc and its fans first

lol it really is, yeah i used those airblowers and cleaned my cpu 4x already the past week. ill try to buy a new psu that i can refund tomorrow just to test it. if not then its definitely my gpu right? or could it be motherboard as well?

EDIT: also just realized when im moving frames in my games like looking at other stuff when i move my mouse the noise from my GPU kind of syncs with it?

Update again,

After playing for a bit my GPU fan suddenly went up to 100% rotation for no reason and crashed, Other instance is suddenly it couldn't detect my monitor and gave me a wonky display then I had to restart my computer for it to go away. Would it definitely be the GPU now?

Update #2.

I switched to my old 20 inch 60 fps monitor instead of the 24 inch 144 fps monitor the coil whine is there but it's SIGNIFICANTLY lower.

very late response but the coil whine is much lower cause your gpu was e.g 96% used to show 144fps but now it is 50% used to show 60fps. So your psu and gpu are used much less thats why. Again with that you cant be sure which one of them is faulty

Well, Tried both of them it still gives me the annoying noise and still has the fps drops that I used to have. Could it be that my motherboard is not enough to run my gtx 970 and 140 fps monitor?

It's an MSI H87-G43 mobo
