I use ubuntu 14.04 trusty tahr and my pc dont shuts down fan runs long after shutdown no power in keyboard or mouse a forum said to set acpi=force in grub but still no help i pretty much exhausted my options.Thanks for reading,help
if it an asus mb it a bios bug. turn the power off at the power supply and let the power good led drain for 10 min. then clear the cmos. after you clear the cmos make sure the mb has the newest bios file. if it has try shutting down and see if the error still there.

Your computer is getting stuck on some process that is hanging, or the kernel is crashing for an unknown reason. When booting remove the options that says 'quiet splash' and you should be able to see which process it is getting stuck on. you can also check if it is a bug that is fixed in newer ubuntu like 15.10
