I recently got an ssd for Christmas and I would like to transfer my OS from the hard drive over to the ssd. So far when I look for answers online they all say to unplug the hard drive, and then install windows directly onto the ssd. My problem however is that I no longer have the disc for windows. I purchased a key online and used a friends copy of windows to download it onto my hard drive. My friend has since lost the cd so I have no way of getting it back. I also upgraded to windows 10 which is different from the 8.1 disc that he has. How do I get windows onto my ssd without using a windows disc?

If you can get that used space to below 200GB, then you can consider a clone operation from the old drive to new SSD.
Otherwise, a clean install on the new drive.
