Hello!

So my situation is the following: I bought a Radeon HD 6870, so far i have been running my Gtx 550 Ti , which only needs 1 6pin connector , but today when i tried to install the 6870 i noticed that it needs 2 6pin cables. My PSU is pretty bad so i ordered an XFX Proseries 550W Core Edition a while ago, it hasn't arrived yet. It has 6 molex HDD connectors and 9 SATA connectors, and one PCIE 6pin connector. I read online that you can convert molex connectors and sata connectors to PCIE. Does that work properly? My current PSU doesn't have a spare SATA or MOLEX connector.

Solution
1x molex to 1 x 6 pin should work as long as you have enough Amps. On most "low to Medium end "supplies all the Molex are shared so there would be no difference if you used one or two the source is the same. Think of it as plugging something into a Electrical outlet and using both outlets for the same device, you would draw the same about of power regardless because it only has a set amount of Volts and Amps to deliver.

This is the right solution , no adapters needed.

Your wrong about the 550w Pro series it has:

Fixed PCI-E Connectors : 1x 6-pin, 1x 6+2-pin

No need for adapters it has you covered.

I know. i stated that i only need to wait until my new power supply arrives, because i still have my old low grade power supply, with one PCI-E connector, and i ordered my new psu, which is an XFX Proseries 550W Core Edition (which you suggested 2 weeks ago btw) which indeed as you said has two PCI-E connectors.

Molex connectors normally lack the surge protection and other features found on the 6 and 8 pin designs. Molex is the most basic power conversion of the supply and most of the time does not have as high of a amp rating found on GPU connectors.
