Hi All,

New to the forum so hello! Names Mark, used to be a PS4 gamer but a friend told me to buy a PC for gaming so here I am.. I have an issue with my new 980ti Lightning, and hoping you experts can help out as I have to admit I am a total newb and the research I have done for clocking is forum-lead and reviews. I'm aware I shouldn't need to clock this card to get good FPS also... I'll lay the spec out first:

Windows 10 Professional 64bit
Corsair CX750 PSU
ASRock Z97 Extreme4 1150 Socket Mobo
Intel i7 4790k CPU clocked to 4.4ghz through BIOS
16GB DDR3 RAM
Stock Cooling with 2x additional Coolermaster Fans
MSI GTX980ti Lighting Edition Card
250SSD Samsung (games not installed on here)
500GB HDD (games installed here)

Ethernet Connection, with speed of up to 15Mbps

Basically, almost any game I play now I'm struggling with either frame lagging or stuttering where the image appears to glitch out for milliseconds then resumes. No errors appear, the gaming is just not smooth at all, this despite displaying 90-110fps with project cars for example.

It was fine at DS2X, but as soon as it went to DS4X which forums appear to advise the lightning card should easily run, it runs into problems. The same thing occurs with GTAV thought the settings are different and granted GTAV is quite a bigger world than just a track. I can get up to 60fps, though with the settings I'd like to play I get stuttering again. though still running at say 40fps virtually all on Ultra settings using 5.4GB of the 6.1GB available... The crew is the other game I experience issues with. Again stuttering even though the GPU usage is not at max, and the FPS appear very high also..

The card has been clocked with MSI Afterburner and I am running at the following smooth so far with tests done via Kombustor and Unigine Heaven benchmark, and perofrms slightly better but still stutters when gaming:

Core Voltage: +50mV

Power Limit: 122% (seems to constantly be using between 118-123% (somehow it goes over the TDP, which leads me to think it could be PSU?? This is only with kombustor, not games Not enough power maybe? Also I have a four pin plug which I was asked to plug directly into the Mobo to power the Lightning)

Temp Limit: 85oC (Priority) - usually goes to 62-65 as stays there abouts)
Clock Speed: 1514Mhz (+85)
Memory Clock: 3947Mhz (+400)
Fan Speed: 100%
(set manually to avoid overheating)

Is my overclocking unnecessary or extreme? I bought the CPU in mind as it appears to have very good single core performance and appears to be a very good option for gaming with ratings of 9.8 out of 10 on average.

Also, my monitor is a BenQ DL2215, and I have a Dual-Monitor setup though one is working off the Lightning GPU and the other from the Mobo, just incase this affects it in any way? I have a feeling it may be either PSU related or the fact my games are installed on a HDD and not SSD. Either that or the dual-monitor setup...

I'd be grateful for any advise at all, and I am now a tad disappointing with the card though this may be my own doing or another component may be bottle-necking my cards limits.

Sorry, almost forgot.. Vsync is usually enabled, and is better but the issue is still there.

Thank you :)
Mark
