Specs:
Os- Windows 7 ultimate 64bit
CPU - I5 4670k @ 3.40ghz
Ram - 8gb corsair xms3 ddr3 @ 1600mhz SPD Latency 9-9-9-24
Motherboard - Asus z87-k
Graphics Card - Nvidia GeForce Gtx 770 2gb
Powersupply - Thermaltake TR2 700w
Hard Drive - 1TB Seagate Barracuda
Monitor - Samsung 40" 1920 x 1080 (TV)

The Issue:
My computer will hang randomly (freeze?) Nothing will respond even the clock stops moving, any sound playing will repeat over and over repetitively very fast where you can't even understand it. My CPU usage will spike to 100% and then I either have to wait for it to recover or hard restart. I sometimes get the Error "Your display drivers have stopped responding and have recovered". This hang is very spuratic and isn't easily replicated.

What I have done:
I changed the TDR registry to a higher value.
I ran Memtest86 with no errors.
I ran Furmark gpu stress test with no issues.
I ran Seagates hard drive test with no issues.
I uninstalled my drivers with DDU and installed to a known stable driver 347.88.
I checked my cpu temperature it idles at 28-30 and with everything going that I could possible want open runs at 42-45.
I turned my power settings all to high performance.

I have taken it to several different stores that all told me nothing is wrong because they can't replicate the error. Sometimes it will happen once a day sometimes it will happen non stop and the computer is unusable, so something is definitely wrong. Also I should note that before this issue occurred I had a blue screen error code 0000000124 (something like that ended in 124) my files all got corrupted and I went to the shop and they put this hard drive in and installed windows back on it this is when the issue started occurring, so I don't think it's any of my old hardware.

OC is short for Overclock, if you have overclocked your card, make sure that's not the problem, drivers usually crash due to bad overclocks. Speaking from experience :kaola:

What do you mean where they occur? I can be doing anything from not having any windows open to heavy cpu usage. It doesnt matter what im doing. It froze today while playing Ghost in the Shell and Skype open, but generally it will freeze at any time that just happened to be what I was doing.

That is very strange indeed, update your bios, if any, and make sure you're running the latest Nvidia driver, i know you reverted to a stable one, but crashes like these shouldn't be occurring no matter what driver you have installed, sounds like a faulty card to me. But here's the strange part, you said furmark runs fine? Here's what you should do, download Unigine Valley or heaven, and let it run for 1-2 hours, record the highest "TEMP, CORE CLOCK, MEM CLOCK, POWER USAGE" All through having GPUz running in the back. If you pass the test successfully, report back to me with those readings, if the driver crashes again. You may want second opinion or get your card RMA.

I ran Unigine Valley for around 1 1/2 hours and these were my results.

Temp : 76 C
Core Clock : 1162.7 MHz
Memory Clock : 1752.8 MHz
Power Consumptuion : 72.1% TDP

I watched it for about 15-25 minutes and didn't see any crashes, but I wasn't going to monitor it for 2 hours.

That's fine, you just need to let it run, but this is very interesting, i've not seen a 960 with only 1162 on the core, it seems like the card is thermal throttling. Are you sure your fans are working fine? Make sure they are, because that might just be the problem, even the base clock on a 960 is 1200+
And are you sure those are your highest results? Because 72.1% TDP makes no sense, if your gpu was maxing out, it should've been much higher, things certainly dont seem right

My GPU is a 770 not a 960 if thats what you mean. Yes I set all the values to show their maximum. I wouldn't know how to see if my fans are working at their maximum. I can open my case and see them spinning but I couldn't tell you if its slower than normal.

My bad, been reading alot of 960 posts XD sorry Ok then, then that seems normal, but stuill, i'd like you to confirm about the power usage, it's odd that it's not using 100%, is that the max reading?

I understand that, this means that your gpu is either not getting adequate power, or your power supply is causing some problems. TR2s are known for screwin up in many places and in general performing poorly. Would you by any chance have another psu to try out with?

I do not. I do not mind going and buying a new PSU but I want to narrow it down as far as possible before I start having to drive back and forth to stores.

Understood, before you take any further steps, i'd recommended you take second opinion from someone else as well, seeing that i was the only person on this post, maybe others can pickup on things i have missed, other than that, i hope you can narrow down your problem and fix it asap, i know how it feels having a bummed gpu and tryna spend time fixing instead of playing, good luck man!

TR2s are known to be wonky, and those driver crashes are usually due to the gpu not getting enough power when under stress (if you have a bad psu). Other than that, it may just be a bad GPU if even the PSU change does not solve the problem.
