So here is the issue I am running into:
I just got this GPU about 8 months ago. The first game I played on it was DA: Inquisition with GeForce Experience optimized settings (pretty high settings). The game played great with nary a glitch in it. There was the occasional hiccup here and there, but it never affected the gameplay. When I was done with that, I started playing Witcher 3 (also on optimized settings which had a few settings on Ultra). For the 1st few weeks into the game, it played great...no problems even on horse races, or running around, navigating in the boat...nothing! Then, I started noticing some audio glitches...maybe just static at first, but then it was missing the last 2 to 3 words of sentences. Then, the gameplay started having glitches also. And it would just build from there until now I am at the point where all the gameplay and cut scenes are choppy and full of static! The main menu where Geralt is sitting is just fine. Smooth details with no problems. The loading scenes with Dandelion narrating works fine also. But the gameplay has gotten irritating. I am so close to finishing the game, but am having a hard time pushing through. It will freeze, but not often. Just static and choppy mostly. I downloaded FurMark to test my GPU, but it got a score of 2660 running the 1080P preset, which showed a max temp of around 75-80C at 44FPS. I'm not an expert, but I know enough to tell me that those are good specs. I fear that my GPU is failing, but I don't want to readily admit it. I was hoping someone on here could maybe help me figure this out. One thing I haven't tried yet is to pull off my CPU and redo the thermal paste on it. It almost seems like thermal throttling, but I wanted to get some other opinions. Thanks for any help!

Solution
OK, I figured out what was going on. So, just for the sake of gaining info, I checked the CPU temp and found my CPU running at a steady 100-120 C. That's never a good sign. I took the puter apart to check the CPU and had no resistance at all in getting the fan off, which showed me that the thermal paste had deteriorated to the point of not making much difference. I took the fan off, cleaned thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol, then reapplied some more efficient paste I had. Now, the CPU is running smooth at around 40-45 C and the GPU temps also went down. I think the GPU was working much harder because the CPU was getting taxed.

Those certainly are good specs, even if your GPU bottlenecks the CPU :p. But, related to your issue, i don't understand why your card is running that hot. It is indeed an OK temp but it is not at all close to the other 960s, heck, my 960 runs at 61-62 MAX WITH HEAVY OC. So i don't understand why this would be happening. My immediate thought was that your overclock is failing. Try resetting the OC, if you have applied any. And then run the game
