I’m interesting in purchasing a GTX 970 and wanted to double check that it will be compatible with my motherboard. I’m guessing it would be a good idea to upgrade my 450W power supply to a larger, more reliable one. Would something around 600W be appropriate? What brand/model would you suggest?

My current build is:
CPU: Intel Core i7- 4790k
Motherboard: Mod 1150 ASUS Z97-A ATX Motherboard
RAM: 8GB
Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 270X 2GB (Going to be replaced)
PSU: 450W Corsair VS (Going to be replaced)

GPU I’m purchasing:

Thanks a lot for your help :)

Yes it should be compatible, check the card length against the space available in the case.

For a PSU, go with a Tier 1 or 2 unit:

EVGA have some really nice units. 650W should be more than enough and leave you expansion room for the future.

If you are going to switch from AMD to an nVidia GPU, be sure to uninstall the AMD driver, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install the new board and the latest driver. This way you can be sure that no remnants from the AMD driver cause issues.
