My dad has an HP Pavilion and he was trying to download an exe. file and he said the PC started to go crazy so he started to restore it to get rid of the virus. Then he tuned it off, the computer boots but there is no display and the power and HDD LED do not come on. He thinks the motherboard is dead and I am not completely sure what could have happened. He also asked me if the HDD would have the virus in it if he were to connect it to another PC?

Solution
When he turned it off.......was it running & he just switched it off at the wall? That can be a huge issue for HDDs if they're writing at the time.

Assuming he wasn't download from the most official of places that he jumped to the virus conclusion?

There should be no harm in attached the HDD to another computer (assuming the other computer has sufficient anti-virus installed). See if it'll read & run a health check on it.

If all is good, you can try a clean OS install - assuming it'll boot to the point you can try that.

I belive he turned it off as it was running, by checking the HDD on another PC I will see if it did any harm to it. So you think there is no problem with MOBO but the HDD?

I just tried to boot with a new HDD and a USB Drive and it didn't pick any of them up. I think there is something wrong with the motherboard, all the fans turn on though I don't know if that has anything to do with the motherboard dying.
