Am I over doing it with the CPU cooler in my htpc build

Hi all,

I've finally bought all my parts for my htpc build after some very helpful advise on the forum BUT I'm wondering if I'm over doing it with the CPU cooler.

I've got a Silverstone GD09 case which I'm fitting with 3 120mm fans.
It'll have a dual fan gtx 960 GPU and a i5 6500.
I've bought a Silverstone AR02 CPU cooler and I'm afraid it might be a bit of over kill. It 134mm tall (136mm on some websites) and the case can take up to a 138mm provided you don't fit a disc drive, which I wasn't going to.
Have I over done it? Lol.
I don't really have to much interest in over clocking. At least not at the moment. I mainly want something cool and quiet.
Would I have been better sticking with the stock cooler. Its so much smaller it must be better for airflow.

Silverstone AR02 CPU cooler is totally fine in your case. It's in fact one of the smaller coolers and uses a 92mm fan. It's a good fit for the cpu.

A lot of big air cooled coolers are way too heavy (over 700g and up )and can bend or even damage motherboards. After seeing how these heavy coolers bend my motherboards, I stopped using them. I now run water cooling on almost all my main rigs.

The stock cooler is usually just enough and won't support overclocking. Because of the retention mechanism without a backplate, these Intel stock coolers also tend to bend the motherboard a little bit. I wouldn't worry if it comes with an OEM system, but for my personally built system, I avoid these Intel stock coolers and pick a $20-30 after market cooler like yours to keep the heat and noise down to the lowest level in the long term.

OK, that's put my mind at ease a bit.
I've got 3 pwm fans in the case as well. Am I right in thinking they adjust their speed depending on the temperature of the CPU?
Or am I going to have to set speeds in the BIOS?
Also there is room for a further 2 80mm exhaust fans. Do you think it's worth it?
