Hello!My PC refuses to even post. I have tried replacing the motherboard and am on my way home to try replacing the PSU. I have tried taking things out one by one etc but literally get no reaction when I try to power on.

I7 4790k
Gigabyte z97 motherboard
16gb ddr3 corsair vengeance
Xfx 280x

My ex girlfriend says there was a storm and then it just wouldn't come on anymore. I am desperately hoping it is not the CPU. ??

Solution
Guys... The new PSU fixed it. The motherboard was also shorting on my case which was causing the machine not to even post.

However, the PSU was kaput. I tried it several times on a breadboard setup and it wouldn't even spin the fans up, but with the new PSU it worked everytime. It took me so long to figure out because the PSU actually fires up when I do the paperclip test... So I guess it is more of a case of a faulty, non-100% PSU than a completely broken one.

However... I am typing this from my PC for the first time in months and am very happy! Thank you for the advice so far.

Solution = new PSU.

No nothing, literally 0 reaction. Like it has no power. I just tried with another power supply, it has another motherboard now and still the same shit... 0 reaction.

Tried all that, was sitting for weeks without any power. Same thing. It literally just will not respond when I hit the switch...

Sorry that was my mistake. :)

No, nothing else plugged in. I am going to try breadboarding it now with literally just the CPU and heatsink installed. If that doesn't at least beep then fuck my life. :(

Ohh don't say that dude. It sure is a nasty problem you have but it can also be something you will laugh about when you discover the problem. It can even be the cables coming from your front panel buttons to you motherboard. Those little bastards are very sensitive and can break anytime.

In case of a power surge usually the PSU takes all the damage.
If it powers on and a component is damaged/removed you would get some beeping noise.(this unless the cpu or the speaker is damaged)

If your not getting any signs of life with a new PSU and motherboard, and it was working before the storm, i'd say its the wall socket or circuit breaker tripped/power strip. Even if CPU was dead, the system would power on, just not POST. Try a DMM on the socket, or check breaker box in your home. Try powering up your PC in another room.
