I disassembled my old HP pc and put the motherboard and some other stuffs into a new custom built pc. The HP pc used to have wifi but now it can't connect using wifi again. It can still detect all the different connections but there is only 1 dot for all of them, and it can't connect to anyone even with the right password.

Did I miss a specific part that I didn't remove from the old PC and put on the new PC? Everything else seems to work fine, except that sometimes there is no sound for the PC and a restart would fix it.

Thanks

Solution

Tech translation: Sees everybody's SSID and a single bar signal strength(?)

My diagnostic: You have left he antenna(s) disconnected.

oh crap now that you mentioned it I remember two tiny wires with two dots on the end got detached from the MB when I was removing it. Are these the antennas?

So without these I can't use wifi? Did I break it or I can still put them back on? (they seem to be attached to the old case though...)

May I ask you an unrelated question? Since now I don't have wifi, I resorted to an ethernet cable. But when I plug one end into the router and the other into my PC, I get "limited ethernet" with the exclamation point, and the diagnosis says that the ethernet doesn't have a valid ip configuration...

Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks again.
