Hy everyone, I've been through just about every thread on this forum related to problem and alas .. no luck.

I've been buying parts for my new computer over the period of a year and finally got around to finishing my build this Christmas.

The problem seems to be with the my Asus P9x79 Deluexe MB. In the Bios it only recognises 24gb of RAM when 32 is installed. In advanced it says 'DIMM_D1 abnormal' but still reads something being there. The Ram I installed was the Corsair CMZ32GX3M4X1600C10 Vengeance 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz C9 XMP Performance Memory Kit.

I've tried making sure my motherboard was properly grounded (taking the it out, checking and reinstalling), updating my bios, using an airblower to clean the slot, switching the ram around in different slots to make sure one stick wasn't dead etc. I've ran out of ideas pretty much. My next step will be getting a professional to take a look. Does anyone have any last suggestions as to how to solve this problem before I do that?

Any comments would be extremely appreciated! many thanks!

Alex

TheEdvinazard, I'm fairy certain I've installed them in the correct slots. How do I know for certain? Jonas Dixon, I'm just downloaded Memtest86. Will perform a test now

Memory is showing no issues. Something else crossed my mind though. There are four black dimm slots and four blue ones. Up until now i've been using the blue slots only. Any reason I can't use two black, two blue?

First of that really shouldn't cause the issue. Since you have checked the ram with memetest i would remove all ram except one and then move it around so you test all ram slots to see if one is failing.

yeah one of the slots reads nothing so I guess it's the mb that's the problem. I bought the item more than 90 days ago 2nd hand so I cannot return it unfortunately :( What about using 2 black, 2 blue?

Says Total Memory: 16834MB. There are 4 8gb sticks inserted unless I'm being ignorant about something it should show 32. In the advanced settings it shows 2 up as being 'abnormal'. here:

Yeah, sometimes it only shows 8gb total memory. I contacted a Asus technician and he gave me the following instructions which i followed through: "Please unplug the PSU and unmount the memory modules. Remove the CMOS battery and place it back in after 30 seconds. Also press the power button down for 30 seconds after this to discharge the capacitors on the motherboard. Then place the Memory modules again and plug in the PSU.

Do not turn on the unit. Instead press the MEMOK! button and the BIOS should load. Press F10 to save the changes and restart. Test if the issue happens again"

I tried this and still nothing. I've replied to him so will wait and see what he says.

Hi. Just to let people know where I am with this issue in case they are experiencing a similar one, I contacted Asus and they told me to return the motherboard to the supplier - something I was sadly unable to do as I bought this 2nd hand. So it's basically faulty and I must now fork out for a new one. One that subject, does anyone know of a decent suitable replacement for this motherboard? This is obviously a motherboard that is a few years old now and I may as well buy what is currently out. The cheaper the better!

Hey Jonas,

Here is the list of components I've got:
Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz, Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR3 1600 Mhz, Corsair Hydro Series H100i2 cooler, Seasonic 750W M12II Bronze Power Supply, Nvidia GTX 670 4GB, 2 seagate 3.5 inch 3TB Barracuda HDs, 2 Samsung 850 Pro 256GB 2.5 ssds, Fractal Design Define R4 case.

My aim with it is to build a decent editing computer for video work.
