I've been overclocking my new AMD FX6300 since yesterday, trying to find a sweet spot.

With HWMonitor and MSI Afterburner, they both show temps the same and what I presumed to be accurate.

I was wondering why my fans weren't raising in speed with rising temps, and when I installed MSI Command Center, I realize it's because it shows the CPU temps much lower.

Running prime95, I'm getting 48c on HWMonitor and 37c on MSI Command Center.

I can't really tell which program is at fault and the heatsink doesn't feel like its 48c. This is messing up my overclocking capabilities.

AMD FX6300 @ 4.2Ghz
16GB 1333 Corsair XM3
MSI GTX 760

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. From what I've gathered there is a CPU Temp and a Core Temp. Best explanation I found was from here http://askubuntu.com/questions/265247/difference-between-core-temp-and-cpu-temp . I'm pretty sure that Command Center is showing the CPU Temp. Under the motherboard portion in HWMonitor, I believe this value is also given as Temperature #1. (I'm not 100% about this and my Control Center and Temp #1 are seperated by about 5 degrees.) I've been using CPU Smart Fan Control in the Green Saver tab of MSI Control Center to control fan speed. You might also want to load BIOS and look in the Settings>Hardware Monitor section to see what target CPU temp and minimum fan speeds are

Just figured it out thanks to what you said. Command Center is showing Mobo (CPU socket) temp. CPU target temp and fan speed profiles don't work as the BIOS does not read the CPU Core temperature, so it never gets up to the target.

Can't get the fan profile set up correctly because of this :fou:

If you used the Record tab in MSI Control Center, you should be able to see the CPU Temp and the System Temp. Did you try adjusting the CPU Smart Fan Control in the Green Power tab of Control Center?
