Hello all.
I am a long-time AMD user. My motherboard has started acting up, and my CPU is fairly old now. I've made the decision to try intel for my replacement since I've had a decent amount of trouble with my current CPU. I'm just not familiar enough with intel to order something until I've got more information. I'd like to stick with the i5 for the CPU because I really don't have the budget for an i7 setup. For the motherboard, I need something that supports the rest of my system and the new CPU. I'd also like something at least mildly future-proofed for a year or so. I don't plan on overclocking and my budget is around $300.
My current rig, minus the mobo and cpu.
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaw X Series 8GB (2x4gb) 240 pin DDR3
Storage: Crucial BX100 250GB SSD and another WD 500GB hard drive
GPU: Powercolor AX7870 Radeon HD 7870 2GB PCIe 3.0
PSU: SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620w
Case is an old Diablotek with 4 fans. Not sure on sizes. I bought this forever ago.
Pretty much everything has been replaced in the last year except for the CPU and mobo, which are 4-5 years old.
I am currently looking at this combination:
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116991
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157511
I saw some forums somewhere that specifically mentioned these two being good together, but it was over a year old and I don't know if there are better options at this point.
Just wanted to run this by people who probably know a lot more about this than myself. Thanks to everyone that answers. I'm going to keep looking in the meantime.
