Just got a XFX R9 280x for my PC, but I've been getting restarts when gaming as fast as 5 minutes after booting up a game. I've been reading around but I need to know if my PSU really is the source of the problem, since it's supposed to be a 1000w PSU. I have a Xcase 1000w-ATX. I had a GTX 650 before this card and I never ran into any kind of power problems. I know for a fact it isn't a temp problem since everything is at normal temps when the restarts happen.
I've also found out that my PSU is pretty dirty, so I'm gonna clean it tomorrow ASAP, will respond if that somehow solves it.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Speccy summary of my PC:
Operating System
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz 41 °C
Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM
4.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. H81M-H (SOCKET 0) 28 °C
Graphics
BenQ GW2450H (1920x1080@60Hz)
Intel Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (Gigabyte)
3072MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (XFX Pine Group) 43 °C
CrossFire Disabled
Storage
127GB Seagate ST1000DM003 ATA Device (SATA)
931GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 ATA Device (SATA) 39 °C
PSU is like pic, but 1000w instead of 900w.

In case my PSU is just plain too useless for this setup, would a evga supernova 750w b2 be a good replacement?

Honorable
id get a better quality 650w. the evga 650w G2.
You dont need 1000w, you just need a decent quality PSU. Try to prevent as much dust as possible. Even make your own filters if you have to with old stockings.

Also, consider a 250gb Samsung 850 evo SSD for o/s and a few games. It will breathe life into your machine. HDDs are incredibly slow in comparison.

A 650w G2 is out of my reach since I live in Mexico and I can't find anywhere to buy it. I can buy a Supernova 650GS or 750G2. Which one would be better, considering they're about the same price? I can also get a Strike-X 800 from a local dealer. Would any of these 3 options do?

Either of those supernova are great.

Honestly a standard xfx 550 bronze is plenty good enough if they're available & significantly cheaper.

You only have 4gb ram ?? You need to upgrade that mate to 8gb.

Regarding reboots , you had an nvidia card before - have you removed all nvidia drivers & software properly ??

If you're unsure download this

Give it a run through with setting to uninstall nvidia GPU drivers & reboot.

Now that I tried DDU I'm totally sure that the problem is totally PSU related. I might buy the Strike X just to get it right away. All 3 PSUs I listed are pretty much the same price anyway.

Just ordered the 750 G2. Got lucky since it was the last one available.
It should arrive around next tuesday. Thanks for the input.
Will report back when I install it to confirm the problem went away.
