What happens when you play quad-core specific games on a dual-core cpu?

I would like to know what will happen when I play games like GTA 5 that require quad-core cpu on dual core cpu's.

Solution
An i3-4160 has hyperthreading. It's not going to play as well as a true quad core Intel chip, but it should work, and is probably a better option for most games than the majority of AMD 4 core processors.
Some titles that require a quad core CPU simply won't play at all, like Far Cry 4. Others will simply play poorly, and require significant reductions in settings to be playable. There may also be issues with lag and other performance related errors. Much depends on the CPU model, clock speed, whether or not it has hyperthreading and if it's an overclocked chip or not. Some of those things, such as hyperthreading and overclocking may mitigate some of the negative effects, but the end result in most cases will be a bottleneck of varying degrees and other performance related issues, or not working at all.

Stuttering would more than likely be the most common issue as I had similar problems years ago trying to run a dual core game on a single core system (original Assassin's Creed on an overclocked to 2.5ghz AMD Opteron 146).

What if my CPU is an i3-4160? Will there be any difference?
