AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE with R9 380 and 500 W PSU

Just wanted to know if my CPU will bottle neck said GPU. By my calculations the 500 PSU should handle them both with around 50 if not more watts available. Is this true?

it's not really about the watts as it is about the amperage on the 12v rail. if you could tell me the exact model of your psu, then i could help.
also, you failed to mention that if your cpu is overclocked.
in the sites that i saw, the r9 380 seems a bit too much for the cpu. they did recommend GTX660, R9-270X, HD 7870, and the HD 7950.
however, if you already bought the card, then don't worry, it's not going to be a huge difference.

Providing the psu is of good quality you will be fine. The 380 should be fine with that cpu, though in cpu dependent games it may become an issue.

that psu is way underpowered.
you need about 60 A and it does not even come close.

60A? Where did you pull that figure from? I have a 380 running on a CX430 and that certainly doesn't produce 60A and yet the card folds 24/7 without issue.

the cpu's power consumption i got from here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2754/15

adding both of them: 326+243 = 569W.
adding another 100w for everything else, you'd get about 660W.
diviging that by 12, you'll get 55A.
just to be on the safe side and to future proof the psu a little, 60A seems just nice.

The 380 uses about 190w not 326w.

It's not a brilliant PSU but it should work, if you are concerned that it might not do the job you could always just get a card that doesn't require as much power as the 380.

I'll eventually get a new PSU for sure though.

One thing, my motherboard has a 2.0 PCI Express x16 socket, I understand that the 380 requires a 3.0 but I also believe that 3.0 is backwards compatible. Will the 2.0 socket bottleneck the 380?

I'm running a 955 be at 4.3 ghz 1.49v and 2 r9 380 at 20% power limit with a 100% system load at 615 watts at the plug
