Connection issues when two particular computers are connected? (not an IP-conflict?)

Hello all!

I live in a household with a fair amount of computers, all connected to a wireless router. Usually this causes no problem, but lately we've noticed an issue that comes up when two particular computers are on and connected to the Internet.

If my own computer and that of my father are in use at the same time, the Internet connection for all computers in the house slows to a grinding halt. It doesn't seem to matter what exactly we are doing, as long as my father and I are using the Internet in some manner. Any other computer or similar device in the house causes no problem - the rest of the family can watch Netflix in HD in the living room while I do fairly bandwidth intense stuff with my own computer with no problems.

When the issue occurs our computers are still clearly connected to the Internet, but they struggle to access even the humblest website. There might be a few seconds of everything working normally, but it passes-

So far I've tried restarting the router, which didn't seem to work. I've also accessed the router to make sure that there is no IP conflict between my computer and my father's - from what I can tell the router has assigned us both different IP addresses.

What is the source of this problem and how do we fix it? Is it a problem with the router or a problem with the settings on our computers?

Never did the safe mode thing, but it looks like you were onto something. My father apparently uses Google Drive and it appears that lovely piece of software was set to try to sync pretty much everything on his computer - using a good chunk of our not-very- impressive bandwidth. I paused Google Drive and set a limit on the upload/download speed and that seems to have sped things up for the both of us. We'll see if it lasts and cheers for the assistance.

that's good
also, i think you could choose not to sync everything with your local drive. right click on the icon in the taskbar, then on the three dots, and then on preferences. from there, i think you'd know what to do
