So, I don't know if the CPU is now melted under my stock CPU cooler (if it is, I deserve it completely), but I need to know if it's still good.

It reached around 85 degrees Celsius for 5 seconds before self shutdown. And me being stupid, I turned it back on. Again...and again...and again. Until my friend told me "Dude, you cooked it" (I admit it: I cried).

But now I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan coming into the mail soon and I wanna know if it's worth it.

Also these things happened:

I'm in an all carpet house with a antistatic wristband.
I put the thermal compound on the size of half a pea (and let the heatsink spread it out).
I have a 500w PSU that may have caused the overheating, but then put back my old 350w.
My PC is prebuilt. A Trooper X6.

Ok first of all. Your CPU is fine and it is normal for the computer to auto shut down under these temps reached by the CPU. It is for protection, it wont let your CPU fry that quick so don't worry. You should NOT under any circumstances put a 350w PSU. IF you are 100% sure the PSU caused the problem, you should get a new PSU, but not a cheap one. Can you list your specs here so I can recommend a PSU for you?

I already have a PSU. A Bronze 500w one. I wasn't sure if that was causing trouble. Besides, it was too large for my case.
Specs:
Geforce GT 730 4GB
AMD Richland 68000K
DDR3 1600 16GB (2x8GB)
Toshiba 1TB Hard Drive
Honestly, I'm going off of memory, but hopefully this is enough.
