Hi, so i have a ga-m61sme-2sl rev.2 am2 motherboard and previously it had athlon ii x2 250 cpu installed, which is am2+ cpu. So it means that the bios is alright, version F5J.
So, i installed an athlon ii x4 640, which should work, cause it needs the F5J bios.
Also, i replaced both ram sticks, from ddr2 pc6400 800mhz 1gb, to ddr2 pc6400 800mhz 2gb, for a total of 4gb.
So, i booted the pc, and it started to beep 3 times, there was no signal on the monitor.
Whats wrong with my pc?

I have some toughts too about it. You see, the ram supported by the athlon ii x4 640 is either ddr2 1066mhz or ddr3 1333mhz. I have installed ddr2 800mhz. At first, i thought that ram caused the problem, but then i looked at the old athlon ii x2 250 specs, and it says, that it too only supports ddr2 1066 mhz, but it works fine on 800mhz too. What is the deal then?

Solution
It is your memory ram that you just installed likely. Try reseating them and if that doesnt work try clearing the cmos, unplug your psu and restart. Its possible you have faulty memory.

Ok, so, i installed my old ram and it works. But, the new cpu should be way faster, and now its kinda same as the old one, it lags and yeah. Windows are 32bit and ram only 2gb. So maybe if i install new windows 64bit and get 4gb ram sticks, it should run much faster?
And i saw, that the cpu multiplier is changing like from 4x to 9x or 11x, but it should be 15x. Whats up with that?

Your memory is just downclocked, if it was running fine with the 800mhz memory before then it is fine. The CPU just has the capability of running a higher frequency then your motherboard. Your mobo only supports dual channel DDR2 800/667/533/400 DIMMs.

DDR2 is very cheap now, so why not get the maximum for your board and go 8gb. and yes you would need to install x64 for the higher memory. It sounds like the new memory you put in was faulty since you were able to use your old ram. And im assuming your seeing the fluctuation of multiplier since your settings are adapting to the cpu usage. Under load it should jump up. You can disable that in the bios. please select best answer

I fiddled around with the new ram and it somehow works :D so, just need to upgrade windows to 64bit.
And tell me, should the athlon ii x4 640 perform as good as pentium g 3258? Cause now, my pentium feels a lot faster on 64bit windows and 4gb ram...

Yeah.. I inserted usb with win8.1 and when i go to the boot menu, it shows this:
Floppy
LS120
Hard disk
Cdrom
Zip
Usb-fdd
Usb-zip
Usb-cdrom
Usb-hdd
Legacy lan

Why are there so many usb options?
I tried usb-cdrom and it boots to regular w7.
Tried usb-hdd and it boots, but it only shows w8 logo and nothing happens, like it freezes.
Tried usb-fdd and it boots to w7 too.
Tried usb-zip and its the same as usb-hdd.
Damn me :D its like the pc doesnt let me to install new windows..
