MB: F2A78M-HD2 CPU: A10 7700K RAM: 16G HYPER X 1866 RAM PSU: CORSAIR VS650 GPU: MSI R9 389 GAMING 4G SSD: 120G KINGSTON HDD: 2T SEAGATE

Today really sucks, cause when tweaking settings and reinstalled/updated my drivers because of stuttering and crashes in some games, (Mad Max, GTA 5) then my GPU totally blacked out. I was playing Mad Max, suddenly it all went black, had to restart, then it dosent boot, just black screen. The GPU fans are spinning and the MSI logo still lights, but thats it..... I took it out, started up with the IGPU with no problem, then i tested with my R7 250x and the system runs smooth. Tested my R9 380 again, but same thing, so im worried its dead! Wonder what happened really, and how to fix it if possible? Anyway, happy new year..

Hmmmm you're not having much luck!

Is your PC booting up and posting with the 380 card installed? I mean; can you get into the bios with it or is it totally black screen: "no display" message on the monitor?

If you can get display upon booting go into the BIOS and make sure you have the iGPU disabled or set to secondary. Your PCIe slot needs to be the primary.

If you are getting black screen as it gets to Windows, then it points to a driver issue within Windows. Use DDU to clear the previous drivers completely, then reinstall them.

If you are still having no luck, you'll have to try and get the card tested in another system to see if it works. If not...then consider RMAing the graphics card.

It doesnt boot with the 380, just black screen, cant reach bios. But there is contact with the montitor, cause it doesnt say no display. Im currently using the IGPU with the 380 installed, fans spinning and lights up, but cant find it in device manager.

I tried driver uninstall usin DDU and updated new drivers, but still the same. So when the local pc part shop here opens "next year" i go there and test it. Have a feeling i need to RMAing it.

Ill post when ive tested it at the shop!

I know those feels man. My Asus 280X died on me back in October. It was out of warranty because I got it as "B-Grade" So I had to buy myself an early Christmas present of an MSI 390X Gaming 8G! :) I got it for £285 during the black Friday sales!!

At least you'll be able to RMA the 280. It sounds like it has died....although you should test it on another system first. They will probably advise you to do that before RMA anyway. Good luck! :(

I went to the retail store where i bought it, and after a discussion about warranty (cause i opened it and changed the thermal paste), and i had to let them read a mail between me and MSI, that the warranty is not voided when opening the card if nothing is physical damaged. So thats it. Just waiting for a new card!

Happy days then! :bounce: At least they were willing to uphold the warranty! That's good news.
