HP laptop won't turn on after ram replacement

Decided to upgrade RAM on hp 15-g132ds (4gb to 8gb, bought new ram at crucial, which said it was compatible). Grounded myself with a wrist cable, took apart laptop following the manual. Taken apart and put back together smoothly, although the top cover got a bit separated on the top left near the power button/ribbon cable. When finished the laptop wouldn't turn on (no activity at all when pressing power button).

I tried the following:
- Checked power button ribbon cable. It was connected to the motherboard but the connection to the button assembly looked slightly off. Tried pressing it closer together. It's hard to describe. It's like a mini ribbon cable on top of a ribbon cable with just clear tape.
- Took laptop apart again and put in the old ram. That's what's in it right now.
- Pressed power button with battery removed for 30 seconds.

Still no activity when I press the power button. Wondering what the next steps are. I *hope* I didn't mess up sensitive internal electronics somehow. Cables look well connected - could I have put something in upside down? Could it still be the power button cord? Anything I can try to bypass that and see if the rest works?

Thanks for any suggestions! :(

(Haven't tried anything new since the post since it was a holiday. Does anyone have any thoughts?)

Solution
Try to unplug the power ribbon section and then plug it back together. If the battery is out make sure you have your charger cord plugged in when you try to turn it on.

You could not have put anything in upside down that would probably take a lot of force. If your ram was not inserted correctly the computer would still turn on but it would not load the operating system.
