Mic wont work with skype

So this question is for how do I fix my mic not picking up my voice on skype. It says that mic is working properly in the settings on skype but when i try to speak it doesn't pick up my voice, ideas?

First troubleshoot the mic and see if it works on another system/laptop then bring it back to your system and see if the volume/levels for your mic are not set to zero. You could also try and look into this article. Please pass on your full systems specs inclusive of the OS? If a laptop then please include the make and model number for your unit. Are you also sure your audio device;s drivers are up to date?
