Hello just a quick couple of questions about upgrading my RAM, can I put Corsair 16GB DDR3 2400Mhz Vengeance Pro Kit (2x8gb) to replace my current RAM?. My motherboard is an ASUS ROG Maximus VII Ranger, my CPU is an i7-4770 and I currently have some old 16GB RAM (2x8GB) installed at 1600MHz. Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

ur mobo should probably support upto 32Gb and yes u can but u need to have same speeds in all ur ram.. so currently u have 1600Mhz so u cnt install 2400mhz and use both of the speeds it's only one speed u can use... and like I said before higher speeds doesn't effect any gameplay of ur a gamer..

thank you for the response my mobo does support the speed, the manual also gives some compatible RAM, the manual also shows corsair RAM that is older than the RAM i want to install does that mean i can install a more recent corsair RAM?

It's a big maybe - while yes the mobo supports 2400, the primary factor in what DRAM you can run is the CPU, specifically the MC (memory controller) of the CPU. With 2400 DRAM it often takes an OC on the CPU to help the MC handle 2400 sticks, and with your locked 4770 (non-K) you aren't going to be able to OC. You can try 2400 sticks and if no joy try lowering and running 2133 or even 1866. Your CPU is native to 1600 but most all can run 1866 and many 2133, very few can run 2400 at stock

thank you for the response i just began researching my cpu compatibility and i found that 2400Mhz may be a problem, so i might consider just getting 1600mhz sticks, maybe 1866mhz sticks.
