Hi
I have a homebuilt desktop pc. I have a wireless usb which I am using to connect to our router.
If I keep the desktop in my office where the router is located, there are no problems whatsoever. The machine connects to the internet absolutely fine.
If I now move the machine to the lounge, the PC seems to get allocated an ip which I have reserved for it on the router - 192.168.1.13 (Preferred) according to ipconfig /all - but I cannot ping the default gateway/router (192.168.1.1). I have also tried a static IP and that didn't help at all. I've tried flushing the DNS, ARP and NBTstat stuff - to no avail. I've tried win7, 8.1. and now win10. All exhibit the same behaviour. I've also tried 3 different usb NICs. Previously in the lounge we had an older win7 PC with a usb nic which worked ok. It was only when I upgraded to a new PC that this problem appeared - even with the old (previously working) usb nic.
Occasionally, I have managed to get some internet access on the PC in the lounge but now am struggling to get anything at all. In that room, there is also an Xbox 360 and Xbox One. My son (the Xbox user) reports that when I've been messing trying to get the internet working on the PC that he notices a degradation in internet speed.
Others can use their laptops - with built-in wifi connecting to the same router - in that room without any problems.
I'm not sure if there is some conflict, between the devices. At one point I thought I was getting internet access on the PC only when the Xboxes were off - so some sort of IP conflict. But that proved to be incorrect since I now can't get internet even with both Xboxes switched off. Further, even if the Xboxes are switched on, if the PC is in my office near the router, it always works ok.
So I'd be most grateful of any other suggestions.
Many thx in advance.
